Madison Comedy Open Mics
NOTE TO NEWER COMICS: Open mics may be cancelled due to holidays, other comedy events, or other venue specific reasons. If it is your first time at a particular mic, we recommend that you contact the venue or host listed for that particular mic.
Ever wonder how you can become a stand up comedian? The best way to start doing stand up is by going to open mics and actually doing it.
Madison has several weekly open mics listed above. These include The Big Deuce, hosted by The Comedy Club on State, which is regarded as one of the best comedy open mics in the country, as well as smaller, more intimate rooms for comics who are developing new material.
Whether you're looking to try comedy for the first time, a veteran of stand up, or you just want to come watch free local comedy, Madison open mics offer a great space to do it. See individual show descriptions for more information.
About the Open Mics
The Argus Underground
Argus Bar and Grille
123 E Main Street (map)
Every Monday. Sign up at 8:30 pm, show at 9:00 pm
Hosted by Anthony Siraguse. Located in a historic building downtown, the Argus Underground open mic is Madison's longest running comedy mic. Every Monday at 9, the Argus is where comedians from all over the Greater Madison Area come to test out new material. You never know what you're gonna see!
The Big Deuce
The Comedy Club on State
202 State Street (map)
Every Wednesday. Sign up by 8:00 pm, show at 9:00
The Big Deuce is THE must see comedy mic in Madison. Comics perform to large crowds at one of the few Comedy Central Certified clubs. Each week, 20 - 25 comics are given 3 minutes to perform in front of a large and engaged crowd. Your chances of getting onstage improve if you have been cut in past weeks, bring audience members, or are from out of town. Out of town comics are encouraged to call or email ahead to help solidify a spot.
The Revolver Mic!
The Rigby Pub & Grill
119 E Main Street
Every Thursday. Sign-up at 8 pm, show at 8:30. (Note: on nights Stand-Up Democracy is held, the mic will begin after the show, usually around 10:30.)
Madison's newest open mic, and it's shaping up to be one of the hottest! Each week features a different host and a different theme!
Comedy by the Slice!
100 State Street (map)
Every Thursday. Sign up at 9:30 pm, show at 10:00
Hosted by Ben Mueller, Ian's Comedy by the slice provides one free slice of pizza to each performer. Audiences at Ian's are often unaware the open mic will take place, which provides a great opportunity to test your cleaner material on fresh ears.
